April 11, 2022 – Proverbs 6:30-31 – Consequences
Daily Word
Proverbs 6:30-31 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]
30 Excuses might be found for a thief who steals because he is starving.
31 But if he is caught, he must pay back seven times what he stole, even if he has to sell everything in his house.
Proverbs 6:30-31 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]
30 Men do not despise a thief if he steals To satisfy himself when he is hungry;
31 But when he is found, he must repay sevenfold; He must give all the substance of his house.
Pastor’s Thoughts
There are consequences to our sins. You know this and I know this.
It does not matter what our reason is for sinning, it’s still sin. In this case, the person that was sinning was stealing because of starving.
Even if there was reason for pity, that does not mean that there is no consequence. The consequence in this case was that the thief would have to pay back seven times what was stolen even if it meant giving all that the thief owned.
Don’t buy into the lie I did when I was young in my faith. “God doesn’t know what it’s like.” Or “It’s just one sin, I’m obeying Him in other areas.” All those sins came with consequences.
All your sins come with consequences as well. That is why it is best to walk in step with the Lord Jesus Christ. When you and I decide to do this, we sin less and obey God more.
Have a blessed Monday everyone. I pray that you will count the cost when tempted to sin. And make things right with those you have sinned against.
