Mar 28, 2022 – Proverbs 5:7-14 – Sexual Sin Costs
Daily Word
Proverbs 5:7-14 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]
7 So now, my sons, listen to me. Never stray from what I am about to say:
8 Stay away from her! Don’t go near the door of her house!
9 If you do, you will lose your honor and will lose to merciless people all you have achieved.
10 Strangers will consume your wealth, and someone else will enjoy the fruit of your labor.
11 In the end you will groan in anguish when disease consumes your body.
12 You will say, “How I hated discipline! If only I had not ignored all the warnings!
13 Oh, why didn’t I listen to my teachers? Why didn’t I pay attention to my instructors?
14 I have come to the brink of utter ruin, and now I must face public disgrace.”
Proverbs 5:7-14 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]
7 Now then, my sons, listen to me And do not depart from the words of my mouth.
8 Keep your way far from her And do not go near the door of her house,
9 Or you will give your vigor to others And your years to the cruel one;
10 And strangers will be filled with your strength And your hard-earned goods will go to the house of an alien;
11 And you groan at your final end, When your flesh and your body are consumed;
12 And you say, “How I have hated instruction! And my heart spurned reproof!
13 “I have not listened to the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined my ear to my instructors!
14 “I was almost in utter ruin In the midst of the assembly and congregation.”
Pastor’s Thoughts
Where do you want your mind to be when you get to the end of your life?
Do you want it focused on all the regret that you have for the life of sin that you lived?
Do you want it focused on how you wasted away your life in pursuit of the world rather than in pursuit of God?
The simple fact of the matter is sexual sin is toxic. This is true if it is physical or visual.
So many people think to themselves I will never get a disease, or I will never get found out, or he/she will never leave me. All those things are lies that people tell themselves.
If people would just be more humble and thought out when it comes to trusting what God says about sexual purity rather than listening to their fleshly desires, the world would be a much better place.
The above passage and just life itself tells you and I that if we go down the road of sexual sin, we will be hurt, we will hurt others, and we will be found out.
If you are currently in sexual sin, confess it to God and surrender it to God.
If you are contemplating sexual sin, stop it and count the cost of going that route.
For the rest of you, please have a plan in place now as to how you will be faithful to God and His design for sex before whatever sexual temptation comes your way.
Living a sexual pure life is one of the wisest decisions you can make.
Have a blessed Monday everyone. I pray that you will make a plan to remain faithful to God and His Word till the end when it comes to sexual decisions.
