Mar 27, 2022 – Proverbs 5:1-6 – Avoid Sexual Sin
Daily Word
Proverbs 5:1-6 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]
1 My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel.
2 Then you will show discernment, and your lips will express what you’ve learned.
3 For the lips of an immoral woman are as sweet as honey, and her mouth is smoother than oil.
4 But in the end she is as bitter as poison, as dangerous as a double-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death; her steps lead straight to the grave.
6 For she cares nothing about the path to life. She staggers down a crooked trail and doesn’t realize it.
Proverbs 5:1-6 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]
1 My son, give attention to my wisdom, Incline your ear to my understanding;
2 That you may observe discretion And your lips may reserve knowledge.
3 For the lips of an adulteress drip honey And smoother than oil is her speech;
4 But in the end she is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.
5 Her feet go down to death, Her steps take hold of Sheol.
6 She does not ponder the path of life; Her ways are unstable, she does not know it.
Pastor’s Thoughts
King Solomon knows all to well how dangerous it is to enter into sexual sin. He entered into it and found himself entangled in it for many years. He wanted to keep his son from doing the same.
Now this passage is a father talking to his son, but this can also speak to women as well. The simple fact is that we need to guard ourselves from entering into sexual sin whether we are a man or a woman.
Sex the way God designed it is a beautiful thing. But anything outside of how God designed it is one of the most deadly things we can do to our bodies.
There are so many consequences to allowing ourselves to go down the path of sexual sin. If it is physical what often comes from it is divorce, hate, disease, aborted children, children born into broken homes, and children that are born who go unwanted most of their childhood.
Sexual sin destroys so many things. One of the things that is not talked about enough is the fact that it destroys the human mind. It makes men and women look at one another as objects to be had instead of human beings who are made in the image of God.
We need to understand that if we are not preparing ourselves for sexual temptation then we will most likely find ourselves going down the path of sexual sin.
How does one guard themselves from sexual temptation? Let me share a few thoughts below.
- Don’t go seeking it out.
- Don’t listen to someone trying to flatter you.
- Don’t look at another person as a piece of meat. Instead look at them as someone made in God’s image.
- Have people who hold you accountable for your actions. Give them permission to ask you the tough questions.
- Pray for God to give you sight to see the sexual sin around you.
- Have a plan in place on what you will do before you find yourself in the midst of said temptation. This way all you need to do is work your plan instead of come up with a plan on the spot.
Have a blessed Sunday everyone. I pray that you will avoid sexual sin at all costs. Do not forget to prioritize worshipping with your local church family today.
