Proverbs 2:16-19 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]

16 Wisdom will save you from the immoral woman, from the seductive words of the promiscuous woman.

17 She has abandoned her husband and ignores the covenant she made before God.

18 Entering her house leads to death; it is the road to the grave.

19 The man who visits her is doomed. He will never reach the paths of life.

Proverbs 2:16-19 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]

16 To deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words;

17 That leaves the companion of her youth And forgets the covenant of her God;

18 For her house sinks down to death And her tracks lead to the dead;

19 None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life.

Pastor’s Thoughts

There are men and women who read these Daily Word’s every day. So, I am going to speak to both men and women in today’s post.

The simple truth is that very few people (and I do mean few) get out of sexual sin where they end up being right with God.

What is sexual sin biblically?

Sex or anything seductive with another outside of God’s design for marriage. God’s design for marriage is one man and one woman covenanting with God and one another for life.

Sexual sin is also a man or woman who is married having sex with another person who is not their spouse.

Sexual sin is watching, listening, or even reading things that are designed to arouse you sexually. There is no person on this planet that in the midst of doing this can keep their mind pure at the same time.

God has called his sons and daughters (men and women who are Christians) to live pure/clean lives. That means keeping our mind pure as well.

Sexual sin whether it is physical or mental has ruined more marriages than you or I can count. Sexual sin is the only sin that the Bible says that when that temptation comes at you – RUN!

You nor I are strong enough to avoid sexual temptation. It will corrupt our minds and snatch us away from God and all that He stands for.

When you are tempted in any way to sin sexually… RUN AWAY from it and run to God’s Word and Godly brothers and sisters in Christ.

What should you do if you have already journeyed the path of sexual sin?

You need to repent. That means you need to confess and seek forgiveness from your sin to God and then covenant with Him on how you will keep from going down this path again. You also need to confess and seek forgiveness from a spouse that you have sinned against. And you need to bring a brother or sister in Christ who loves Jesus and is the same gender as you in on your sin to hold you accountable as you have the Spirit of God use the Word of God to reprogram your mind away from all the sexual sin that you have placed inside of you.

This does not mean there will not be consequences for your sins. As I have said before, God allows you to choose your choices, but He does not allow you to choose your consequences.

I know you are thinking about how scary it is to confess to God and to others, especially if you are married.

The truth is I can’t tell you exactly what will happen if you trust God and do what He says you are supposed to do. But what I can tell you is this. You will finally be free. You won’t be feeling shame all the time, looking over your shoulder hoping that your spouse or someone else doesn’t find out.

God created us not to be secretive and phony. He created us to be transparent and vulnerable with Him and others. When we live this way then we take away most of the weapons that Satan and His demons threaten us with.

So, what is it you will do? Will you choose to keep your mind and body pure? Will you repent of your sins and confess them to your spouse, bringing in a Godly brother and sister in Christ to help you through this difficult season?

The longer you choose to stay in sexual sin the worse it will be. God wants to help you through this. You just have to trust Him.

Have a blessed Saturday everyone. Make it a priority to worship with a local church family tomorrow.
