Pastor’s Thoughts
I have been a Christian since I was sixteen and served in ministry since I was nineteen. One thing I have seen that separates the maturing and growing Christians from the inconsistent and stagnant Christians is having a biblical fear of God.
When a Christian has a biblical fear of God then they look at God in a whole new way. They don’t look at Him as someone to use or manipulate for their own advantage, but instead they look at Him as someone that is worthy of their worship and service. It is a joy to worship and serve God rather than a burden or a chore.
Those Christians who are hardly ever maturing in their faith often come to God out of convenience. If they need something they come to Him. If they want something they come to Him. If life is getting hard, they come to Him. But when life is going “good” in their eyes then they put God back in their box until He is needed again.
I think if we are being honest, we have all been in seasons of this mentality. I know that I have. But we should not see the majority of our relationship with God going like this.
We need to have a healthy biblical fear of God. As we learn more of God’s truths from His Word, it should change the way we live our lives. Again, not so that we can get from God and use Him for our benefit. No, we change our lives based off His Word out of our love and appreciation for what God did and who He is.
He is God, we are not. One thing I love most about my relationship with God is that He doesn’t let me stay on the wrong path for long without bringing discipline (correction) in my life. I need His correction and instruction as I aim to live my life for Him, just as my two boys need correction and instruction from Alison and me.
Do you fear God? Truly, give it some thought. Do you fear God? Do you see who He is and realize that playing games with Him spiritually is not a wise choice?
If you really want to grow in wisdom, then you must not treat God as if He is not who He actually is. Treat Him as the king that He is. Treat Him as the Heavenly Father that He is. Treat His son, Jesus Christ, as the Lord and Savior that He is. Treat God’s Holy Spirit as the helper and provider of wisdom that He is.
If you are a Christian, then you need to have a healthy biblical fear of God.
Have a blessed Friday everyone!
