April 10, 2022 – Proverbs 6:23-29 – Sexual Temptation
Daily Word
Proverbs 6:23-29 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]
23 For their command is a lamp and their instruction a light; their corrective discipline is the way to life.
24 It will keep you from the immoral woman, from the smooth tongue of a promiscuous woman.
25 Don’t lust for her beauty. Don’t let her coy glances seduce you.
26 For a prostitute will bring you to poverty, but sleeping with another man’s wife will cost you your life.
27 Can a man scoop a flame into his lap and not have his clothes catch on fire?
28 Can he walk on hot coals and not blister his feet?
29 So it is with the man who sleeps with another man’s wife. He who embraces her will not go unpunished.
Proverbs 6:23-29 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]
23 For the commandment is a lamp and the teaching is light; And reproofs for discipline are the way of life
24 To keep you from the evil woman, From the smooth tongue of the adulteress.
25 Do not desire her beauty in your heart, Nor let her capture you with her eyelids.
26 For on account of a harlot one is reduced to a loaf of bread, And an adulteress hunts for the precious life.
27 Can a man take fire in his bosom And his clothes not be burned?
28 Or can a man walk on hot coals And his feet not be scorched?
29 So is the one who goes in to his neighbor’s wife; Whoever touches her will not go unpunished.
Pastor’s Thoughts
There is a reason the book of Proverbs talks about faithfulness and unfaithfulness so often, specifically sexually. It takes a willing desire to exercise self-control. Sexual temptation is not something you even have to go looking for in today’s world. It goes looking for you. All you have to do is go on social media or click on a website that has an ad or pop up. You sign up for a hook-up app on your phone. Satan has made it so easy to corrupt your minds today by way of sexual sin.
As someone who lived in a sexual sinful lifestyle for a period as a Christian, it burned me badly. Very badly. I struggled with trying to make the right choices and giving in to my flesh. I praise God that He did not give up on me and that He continued to convict my heart. I praise God that He forgave me.
BUT that does not mean that there are no scars (residual consequences) from submitting to those particular sins.
I beg you to do what God’s Word says when sexual sin approaches… RUN… Run towards God’s Word and to The Holy Spirit. Run towards someone of the same gender who loves Jesus Christ for added support and accountability. Never leave yourself alone in a sexual sinful situation expecting that you will find victory. That never works. Victory can only be found in Jesus Christ.
Have a blessed Sunday everyone. I pray that you will not linger when sexual temptation comes for you. Run into the arms of Jesus Christ. I also pray that you will make time to worship King Jesus today with a local church family.
