Daily Word
Proverbs 3:11-12 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]
11 My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you.
12 For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom he delights.
Proverbs 3:11-12 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]
11 My son, do not reject the discipline of the Lord Or loathe His reproof,
12 For whom the Lord loves He reproves, Even as a father corrects the son in whom he delights.
Pastor’s Thoughts
Growing up most people understood discipline or correction as something that was meant to hurt us. That is not the case. At least that is not supposed to be the case. Sadly, many parents and people of authority have made it a habit that when they correct or discipline that they are in fact punishing with the intent to harm. Again, that is not what biblical discipline is.
Biblical discipline is meant for the good of the one who is being disciplined. FOR THE GOOD. When God is correcting us and disciplining us it is for our good. He wants the correction to lead us to become more like Jesus Christ. He never corrects or disciplines us out of anger. That is not who He is.
Now, there are times where God is rightfully angry and instead of correcting or disciplining because said person or persons has denied it, He instead brings deserved punishment on those said people. He has every right to do this.
So, when God is pointing out your sin through His Word, Holy Spirit, or another believer… Be thankful rather than resentful. He loves you. When God corrects you it does not always feel good. In fact, most times it doesn’t. But that pain is to teach us that making said choices hurts and is not good for us.
All God wants for us is His good that He has planned for us. Because when we are in step with Him and His good then we are bringing increased glory to Him and His Kingdom.
Don’t run from God’s discipline, instead run to it. Be thankful for it.
Have a blessed Friday everyone. Make time today to give God permission for Him to evaluate your heart and reveal to your areas where you need correction and discipline. Then thank Him, repent of said sin, and learn from that time in prayer.
