Proverbs 4:25-27 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]

25 Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you.

26 Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path.

27 Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.

Proverbs 4:25-27 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]

25 Let your eyes look directly ahead And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you.

26 Watch the path of your feet And all your ways will be established.

27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.

Pastor’s Thoughts

Keeping our eyes straight ahead is a discipline that must be purposefully practiced.

That means we need to be aware that our flesh (sin nature), the world, and the enemy (Satan and his fallen angels) are going to battle against us to get us to go away from the straight path.

They won’t care what path we choose to take as long as it not the straight path.

We can’t stay on the straight path by accident. It has to be done on purpose.

This means that we must know what God’s Word says about how we are to live our lives and then commit to do what the Bible says. Otherwise, we will walk off path.

What should we fix our eyes on exactly? Jesus Christ. That is the answer. We are to fix our eyes on God’s Son, Jesus Christ. He is my Lord and Savior. That is where my eyes must stay.

When I am in sin (walked off the straight path), it is because I have taken my eyes off of Jesus.

What steps will you take to get God’s wisdom and to stay on the straight path (keep your eyes on Jesus Christ)?

Have a blessed Saturday everyone. I pray that you will avoid the paths that go against God’s Word and instead stay on the path that keeps your eyes on Jesus. When you do go off His path, I pray that you will fix your eyes back on Jesus Christ and ask forgiveness of your sin that led you to take your eyes off of Him.
