Proverbs 1:10 (New Living Translation)

10 My child, if sinners entice you, turn your back on them!

Pastor’s Thoughts

There have been many and will continue to be many more people that will attempt to tempt others to sin. This verse specifically is talking about non-believers when it says “sinners”. That is what that word always refers to when used in the Old and the New Testament.

The fact is there will always be people that WILL do their best to get you to join in on their sin. I was one of those that encouraged others to sin with me before I had surrendered my life to Christ. Misery loves company. It’s somewhat of a fact. Ha Ha

When you experience that temptation, you need to have a plan in place already so that there is no decision that needs to be made. All you will need to do is execute your plan. Notice the plan the Bible gives you and I is not to argue with them or hang around with them while they sin but don’t participate.

No, the advice that this proverb gives is to “turn your back.”

That does not mean for you to be rude or hateful. It means you know that you are vulnerable to sin and hanging around temptation is never a wise thing to do. So, when the temptation is presented you simply say no thank you and walk away from it. You don’t give it any more thought. You might even pray for said person that is tempting you as you go away. I had done that many times in my younger life as new Christian. I don’t have many people attempt to tempt me to sin these days.

So, what are you going to do when someone tempts you to sin? Trust God and His perfect Word, not the person in front of you, nor your own fleshly desires.

Have a blessed Tuesday everyone!
