Proverbs 1:24-27 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]

24 “I called you so often, but you wouldn’t come. I reached out to you, but you paid no attention.

25 You ignored my advice and rejected the correction I offered.

26 So I will laugh when you are in trouble! I will mock you when disaster overtakes you—

27 when calamity overtakes you like a storm, when disaster engulfs you like a cyclone, and anguish and distress overwhelm you.

Proverbs 1:24-27 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]

24 “Because I called and you refused, I stretched out my hand and no one paid attention;

25 And you neglected all my counsel And did not want my reproof;

26 I will also laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your dread comes,

27 When your dread comes like a storm And your calamity comes like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.

Pastor’s Thoughts

I think we can all agree that we never want to hear God laugh and mock us. You might say, why would a good God do such a thing?

That is a human self-focused mindset. He has offered His wisdom and salvation for thousands and thousands of years. Yet the Bible tells us and a simple look through history tells us that most people have and will continue to reject God’s way and go some different way.

He calls out to all but so many reject Him and laugh and mock Him and His people (Christians).

The Bible tells us that at the very end of life on this earth there will be a day of judgment. That Jesus Christ Himself will judge every person who has ever lived on this planet. Those who rejected Him, and His way of life will get what they asked for – eternal separation from God in Hell. Those who accepted and lived according to His Word will spend eternity with God in the New Heaven and the New Earth.

Make no mistake, when this day comes, there will be many people that will plead and beg God to give them one more chance. They will tell Him that they are sorry and are ready to follow His way now. But as we see in this text when that day comes, God will not and can not give them what they ask for. He gave them their chance while they lived on this Earth.

If you have not made Jesus your Lord and Savior, I pray that you will make that decision.

If you do belong to Jesus Christ, I pray that you will make it your life’s mission to go into your world and share God’s Good News of salvation in Jesus Christ to as many people as you can. And for those that surrender their lives over to Jesus, I pray that you will live life with those people showing them what it looks like to live for Jesus.

Have a blessed Sunday everyone! Don’t let your flesh, the cares of this world, and Satan keep you from worshipping Jesus Christ with other believers at a local church today.
