Daily Word

Proverbs 1:21-23 (New Living Translation) [A thought for thought translation]

21 She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate:

22 “How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded? How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge?

23 Come and listen to my counsel. I’ll share my heart with you and make you wise.

Proverbs 1:21-23 (New American Standard Bible) [A word for word translation]

21 At the head of the noisy streets she cries out; At the entrance of the gates in the city she utters her sayings:

22 “How long, O naive ones, will you love being simple-minded? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing And fools hate knowledge?

23 “Turn to my reproof, Behold, I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you.

Pastor’s Thoughts

I have been debating about including not just the NLT translation in these Daily Word’s but also the NASB as well. As you see labeled at the top, the NASB is a word for word translation of the original text and the NLT is a thought for thought translation of the original text, a thought for thought is to make it more readable in today’s language. Both styles of translations have their benefits. I personally read from both and study from both.

Notice that Lady Wisdom is asking for the people who have been behaving like the simple minded, the mockers, and the fools to turn away from their current way of life and turn towards her correction.

That if the people behaving those three ways would just turn to her for correction that she would pour out her wisdom on them.

Wisdom is offered to every person on this planet. That does not mean that every person on this planet is wise. There are many people who have rejected the Lord’s wisdom and continue to find themselves in situations that they know not how they got there, and they know not how to get out of there.

Yet, here is Lady Wisdom offering an opportunity for correction (repentance) right here and now.

All that needs to be done is a turning away. A transaction if you will. You and I are to give over our simple minded, mocking, foolish ways and receive God’s righteous ways and we will be blessed.

If you have always stayed in the mindset of being simple minded, or mocking, or foolishness, then you need to repent of your sins, believe in Jesus Christ, and make Jesus your Lord and Savior.

If you have already received the gift of salvation in Christ and find yourself sometimes behaving like a simple minded, a mocker, or a fool, then you need to repent of your sins that you have not already confessed to God and replace those behaviors with the way that God’s Word says to live.

Lady Wisdom is calling even right now. What are you going to do with her call?

Have a blessed Saturday everyone! Make time to worship Jesus with a local church family tomorrow if you are able to do so.
