Feb 11, 2022 – Proverbs 1:20-22 – Wisdom Calls Out
Daily Word
Proverbs 1:20-22 (New Living Translation)
20 Wisdom shouts in the streets. She cries out in the public square.
21 She calls to the crowds along the main street, to those gathered in front of the city gate:
22 “How long, you simpletons, will you insist on being simpleminded?
How long will you mockers relish your mocking? How long will you fools hate knowledge?
Pastor’s Thoughts
Notice that what we have been seeing is that sinners call out to get people to follow their ways into sin. The same is true for wisdom. The author paints wisdom as a lady who is calling out to everyone, offering herself to everyone. Trying to rescue everyone.
True wisdom is a lasting wisdom that spans across time. If it does not come from God and His Word than it is not true wisdom.
The truth is that when making decisions there is only two answers to choose from. I will do things according to God’s design or I will rebel and go another way. It does not matter what that other way is. If it is another religion, or science, or some other way… it does not matter. If it is not God’s way then it is the wrong way.
When the Bible is saying simpletons, mockers, and fools – it is not referring to people who have a mental deficiency but a character deficiency. Foolish people are not fools because they are dumb or stupid. They are fools because they make a choice to reject God’s way and go that other way we talked about.
Satan does not care what other way you or another person goes as long as you do not go God’s way then Satan is happy.
The book of James chapter 1 verse 5 says, “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.”
So, who is your source of wisdom? What do you do once you have received said wisdom?
Do you trust it and obey, or do you rebel and walk away?
Have a blessed Friday everyone!
