Proverbs 1.1-2 (New Living Translation)

2 Their purpose is to teach people wisdom and discipline, to help them understand the insights of the wise.
Pastor’s Thoughts
What’s New
I have been praying about changing these devotionals up for some time. I had that confirmation from The Lord yesterday. What I will be doing from here on out is going through books of the Bible in short chunks.
The first book we will be going through is the book of Proverbs. I pray that these bless you and help you grow further into the image of Jesus Christ.
Context
Remember that King Solomon was the son of King David. The same King David who slayed the giant Goliath. King Solomon was the son of Bathsheba. The same Bathsheba that David saw on a rooftop and had to have as his own. So much so that he had her taken to him and slept with her. And then had Bathsheba’s current husband Uriah killed.
King Solomon is the same person who was told by God one day that he could have anything he wanted. King Solomon’s answer was wisdom. God granted his request and then some. He is described as the wisest person to ever live.
He had seasons of being a great king and other seasons of being a terrible king.
This is someone that we can all learn from. Understand that much of the book of Proverbs is not promises from God. They are more like probabilities from God. If you do “this” then most likely “this” will happen.
Thoughts
I do not know about you but I need all the wisdom and discipline that I can get. I have not always made the most wise choices believe it or not. Maybe you can’t relate with me. Perhaps every decision you have ever made has been a decision of wisdom. If that is the case for you then congratulations. This book isn’t for you. But for everyone else out there, this book is most certainly for you.
There have been many great men and women of God who have lived before me. I am not to ignore the lives that they lived. I am to learn from them. The good and the bad. So should you.
As we go through this book of wisdom, I would encourage you to come to it with an empty cup. Forget all that you think you know and trust that the man who was inspired by God to write this book knows much more than you and I combined.
What would happen if more people would come to God to find wisdom rather than going to entertainers, politicians, social media, and all the other options out there for wisdom?
God has given us an entire book dedicated to wisdom. What will you choose to do with it?
Will you shake your head in agreement and do nothing with it?
Will you read it and think about applying it but never follow through?
Or will you take it all in and apply it to your life so that you can become even more like Jesus Christ? The more we become like Jesus, the brighter and further our Christian light will shine.
Have a blessed Monday everyone! I pray you all had a blessed Lord’s day yesterday.
